We understand any time you are in the hospital it can be an emotional and trying time. The Patient Relations Department is here to help. Patient Relations serves as a liaison between the patient / patient family member and the hospital and clinical staff. Our goal is to provide you with information and assistance you need to make your stay with us an enjoyable one.

Visiting Hours and Regulations

Visitors can be good medicine for patients. Family members and friends are welcome to visit. However, patient care is our primary concern at Tulane, and, in order to enhance the quality of care, specific visiting hours and regulations have been established for each unit. Please follow these guidelines and should you need further information, please contact the nurse on the unit.

Downtown Campus

General visiting hours: 12 – 9 p.m.
Intensive Care Units: 9 – 11 a.m., 2 – 5 p.m., 8:30 – 10 p.m.

Lakeside Campus

General visiting hours: 9 a.m. – 9 p.m.


Visiting Regulations

Following are general guidelines for visitors:

  • Visitors may not smoke in patient rooms or anywhere in the hospital except for designated smoking areas.
  • No more than two visitors are allowed at bedside at one time. Visitors in semi-private rooms should be considerate of both patients.
  • No children under the age of 14 years of age are allowed to visit patients unless approved by the nursing staff. Children must be supervised at all times and may be asked to leave should they become disruptive.
  • Visitors who have a contagious disease are discouraged from visiting patients.
  • Visitors must show respect for the privacy and rights of patients sharing a room with their loved one.
  • Visitors should maintain a quiet environment and avoid unnecessary noise.
  • Visitors may be asked to leave the room during tests or treatments or when the doctor or nurse needs to see the patient.

Accommodations - Downtown Campus only

Deming Guest Housing – the Deming Pavilion is attached to the hospital via skywalk. These smoke-free rooms are available to patient families. All rooms are outfitted with a television, telephone, Internet connection, Kitchenette (refrigerator, stove, microwave and coffee maker) and full bath. Sitting rooms are available in the one and two bedroom units. No maid service or room service is provided.

To request a reservation please fill out the request form. A patient relations staff member will phone you to confirm your reservation with in 24 hrs, or the next business day.

Local Hotels – Several area hotels offer reduced medical rates to families of Tulane Medical Center patients. Please contact Patient Relations for locations and rates (504-988-5934).

Chapel


Downtown Campus

The Eason Chapel is located on the first floor of the Aron Pavilion which is always open to patients and visitors for prayer and meditation.

Should you desire spiritual counsel, patient relations can assist you with contacting your local clergyperson or make arrangements for clergy if you are from out of town. Patient Relations can be reached at 504-988-5934.

Eucharistic ministers are available to provide communion upon request Monday, Wednesday & Friday, 9:30am – 11:30am.

Lakeside Campus

The Chapel is located on the first floor next to outpatient surgery open to patients and visitors for prayer and meditation. Communion is available 7 days a week from 8-11am.

Should you desire spiritual counsel, patient relations can assist you with contacting your local clergyperson or make arrangements for clergy if you are from out of town. Patient Relations can be reached at 504-780-6507.

Lakeside Campus

The Cafeteria is located on the1st Floor of the Hospital serves Breakfast M- F and Lunch 7 days a week.

 

Flower addressing and delivery

Please note: Flower/Plant Delivery is not permitted in our Intensive Care units. We encourage you to check with the nursing staff prior to sending or bringing flowers.

Gift Shop


Downtown Campus

Located on the 2nd floor in the Aron Pavilion, the Gift Shop provides coffee, magazines, snacks, gifts, flowers etc. Open M- Th 8:30am – 7 pm, F 8:30am – 5:30 pm, Sat. and Sun. 10am – 4pm.

Lakeside Campus

Located on the 1st floor of the hospital, the Gift Shop provides coffee, magazines, snacks, gifts, flowers etc. Open M- Th 8:30am – 8 pm, F 8:30am – 6pm, Sat. 9am – 4pm and Sunday 10am – 4pm.

 

Internet Access


Downtown Campus

Patient Relations on the 2nd floor of the Aron Pavilion provides two computers with internet access for your convenience. These computers are available during regular business hours, 9:00am – 5:00pm Monday – Friday.

Language Assistance – Interpreting / Translation


Downtown Campus

Interpreters are available for virtually all languages including American Sign Language. Please contact patient relations at 504-988-5934 to make arrangements for interpretation services M-F 9am – 5pm; after hours and weekends, contact the hospital operator and request the patient relations team member on-call.

For the Hearing Impaired – TDDY devices are available for patient use. Please contact or request the nurse to contact patient relations for delivery of TDDY devices.







Lakeside Campus

Lakeside provides an in house Spanish Language Interpreter M-F 8:00 am – 4: 30 pm; after hours and weekends, contact the hospital operator and request the patient relations team member on-call. For all other languages including American Sign Language, please contact patient relations at 504-780-6507 to make arrangements for interpretation services M-F 8:00 am – 4:30 pm; after hours and weekends, contact the hospital operator and request the patient relations team member on-call.

Parking


Downtown Campus

There are two secure parking garages that visitors can park in at the Downtown Campus. Regular rates apply. Click here for printable directions.

For the TMC owned Garage on LaSalle Street - Weekly parking contracts are available at a discounted rate via the patient relations office on the 2nd floor. Contracts are for the full seven day period, partial week and refund for unused portion are not available. Cost is $20-/week with in and out privileges. An additional $10- refundable deposit is required for the parking card. Please visit or call patient relations (504-988-5934) for more information.

Patient Advocacy / Issue Resolution

If at any time during your stay you have a concern or a problem, please notify your nurse or the Patient Relations Department.

Our goal is to provide excellent care and to respond, in a timely manner, to concerns and issues brought to our attention. Your comments give us valuable information that we use to improve the quality of service that we provide to our patients.

You can reach the Patient Relations department on the downtown main campus Monday – Friday from 8:30 am – 5:00pm at 504-988-5934. At the Lakeside campus Monday – Friday from 8:000 am – 4:30pm at 504-780-6507. After hours, please contact the Nursing Supervisor on duty. Hearing impaired patients should call using the Louisiana Relay at 800-947-5277.
